What if I don't have a diastasis?
Feb 26, 2024For one thing, if you’re pregnant–YOU HAVE A DIASTASIS.
If you were pregnant within the last year, your chances are really high that you still have one, too. Honestly, it doesn’t really matter if you do or don’t. What matters is if you know what to do about it.
And did you know that a lot of little kids have a diastasis, too??
No matter how many times I try to explain the role of the transverse abdominals to my 2-year-old, he Just. Won’t. Listen.
But guess what?
He doesn’t have to! His body knows how to do what it wants to do (other than, you know, climbing UP the fireman’s pole at the playground).
His muscles have figured themselves out to the point that he is using his core–quite effectively, I must say!--with no worries about that little separation I see sometimes.
So that’s my point—diastasis or no diastasis, what really matters is if your body is meeting the demands you’re placing on it.
What really matters is if you have enough core control to not have your low back hurting all the time.
What really matters is if your core is strong enough to carry a baby around all day or chase a toddler at the playground.
What really matters is not if you have a diastasis, but if your core is WORKING.
psst—if you made it this far and you’re still wondering what a diastasis is, it’s time for the Mama Core workshop, hunny.
Ready to get your core working? Here’s an IG reel I made with 3 keys to resolving diastasis recti. Enjoy!
